History: Emmett McCarty was born in Gattinburg, Tennesse on a rainy March Sunday in 1915. He was the first of five children; two other boys and two girls. He was just a year apart from his brother Michael and the two were simply inseparable from the very beginning. Emmett was a decent big brother to all of his siblings and took his job of watching over them seriously. He still managed to have some fun from time to time though. He and Michael pulled some legendary practical jokes together, mostly on their good-natured father or hapless siblings.

Clifford McCarty worked at the mill and was a excellent provider for the family. He was a skilled hunter who always put food on the table and wanted his sons to carry on the tradition. Emmett took to it the quickest and was soon bringing in bigger game than even his father. To show him how proud he was of his eldest son, Clifford passed on his prized Winchester rifle to Emmett on his 20th birthday. A couple of weeks later he finally got a chance to use it while hunting with Michael. They took down a hefty buck but Emmett wanted to grab another before they went home.

Michael went to tie their kill to the roof of the Oldsmobile while Emmett went deeper into the woods. He found another herd and was so focused on his mark that the bear was able to get too close. With the animal in such close proximity, he didn’t pause to think but merely pulled the trigger. Unfortunately it wasn’t a kill shot and the wounded, enraged bear rushed him. Even as he fought unsuccessful for his life, Emmett was relieved that at least his brother was safe from this. Michael was turning into a good man; he would take care of the family. Suddenly the crushing weight and tearing claws were gone. His body slumped to the forest floor and he waited for the end to come.

Emmett found himself cradled in the arms of the most achingly beautiful angel as she flew him to meet a golden God. Pain, worse than before, began and he knew he was being tested so he tried to endure. The angel never left his side; her lovely face helped to ease some of the agony. When it was over and things were explained to him, Emmett was actually pretty fine with the ‘vampire’ thing. If Rosalie and Carlisle were vampires then it couldn’t be so bad. At first he had trouble with the Cullen diet but Rose always helped him through. Their love blossomed and since then they’ve been married numerous times.

Personality: It's a common misconception and a huge mistake to assume that Emmett is stupid. After living ninety years and going through high school and college numerous times, he has learned quite a lot in life and is highly perceptive of people's feelings. Having seen all that he has, he believes that it's pointless to waste time and energy on upsetting things and focus on what really matters. Emmett keeps everything simple because he doesn't believe in secrets and he tells things like it is.

Though not what you’d call an optimist, he can always make the best of things. Or at least see the humor in them. He’s got quite the repertoire of zingy one-liners and can find the innuendo in just about anything. As fun as he is it can sometimes be hard for him to get serious. But at heart he is very much the big brother and willing to do whatever it takes to protect his family. Emmett loves with his whole heart and nothing makes him happier than pleasing the object of his affection. It’s all that and his total devotion that makes him so perfect for Rosalie.

Appearance: At six foot, five inches Emmett is the tallest and most imposing of the Cullens. He's built like a weight-lifter, body layered with bands of pure muscle. He has dark hair that is just long enough to curl a bit though he tends to dislike when it does; the constant rain in Forks certainly doesn’t help. His face is chiseled and exceptionally handsome but it takes on a boyish quality whenever he smiles and his dimples show. Like all vampires Emmett is pale-skinned and has the vegetarian gold eyes.

Special ability: Beyond the usual vampire attributes, he is physically stronger than the others.

Roleplay Sample: Weekends when the family wasn’t hunting were often boring to Emmett, especially since Alice had kidnapped Rosalie for yet another shopping spree. This time it was some mall grand opening in Canada. Only Alice would insist on leaving the country just for a sale. He supposed that he should be glad that she hadn’t wanted to drag him and Jasper along. She claimed they would spoil their fun. And by they, she meant him. Which was probably true. Emmett only had so much patience. What was the point of trying on 20 similar outfits and then going out to get even more? If one fits, the rest will.

Aghast that he was actually mentally debating the merits of shopping, Em reached for the remote and flicked on the big screen TV. He flipped though the channels in search of some kind of sporting event. He found himself pausing on E! for a moment while they unveiled some new development in the whole Brad/Angelina ‘scandal’… which he only knew about because of Rosalie. Of course. “Rose isn’t here though,” a slightly amused voice pointed out. Emmett scowled and changed the channel quickly. Mind your business Miss Cleo, he thought in Edward’s direction. His brother merely chuckled.

Then, as a sort of retaliation, he mentally revisited his yesterday night with Rose in great detail. It was something he had done many times in the past but it still had the same reaction. Edward made a disgusted noise and left the room. Alone at last. Emmett grinned with satisfaction and continued channel surfing until he found a baseball game. He’d have to ask Alice when the next storm was coming. He owned Jasper some payback for last time. Emmett slumped down on the couch so he could put his feet up on the coffee table. He kicked his boots off first though because if Esme caught him with dirty shoes on her antique rosewood it would be like reliving the grizzly attack. But worse.
