Welcome to the site!
As original characters, you guys have the option of doing whatever you want - you have no limitation inside the Twilight world. However, keep in mind that it's inside the Twilight world. You can't have a vampire-werewolf, because vampire venom in deadly to the wolves.
All rules still pertain to you. You can also participate in the site-wide plot; a human affected by the Volturi's coming? A nomad shapeshifter that became a wolf only after the Volturi's visit?
Unfortunately, this spiffy post isn't as long as the canon one.
It's a good thing, however, because you, lucky non-canon, have less requirements!
Now; off you go to roleplay!
